“Signs of Spring” Walk to Zylfee Brook, Saturday, March 13th, 1pm-3pm. We will investigate flowering trees and shrubs along a 1.5 mile hike to Zylfee Brook (3 miles roundtrip). With any luck, we will hear Wood frogs and Spring peepers having recently emerged from their winter slumbers. $4 members; $6 nonmembers

Winter Bird Walks
Saturday, March 27, 9am-11am
Winter birding at Allens Pond promises some of the best opportunities to see bay and sea ducks in their dapper alternate plumages, loons, overwintering passerines, and winter hawks on the Southcoast. Join guest
ornithologist Paul Champlin as we bundle up against the elements to prowl the thickets and shoreline of the Sanctuary.
$4 members; $6 nonmembers

 The "Shrink Your Footprint" Fair

on Saturday, March 13, 1-5pm at the Greater New Bedford Voc Tech High School, 1121 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA.

The 3rd annual Shrink Your Footprint series has expanded into a half-day fair featuring workshops for adults, teens, and families on how to live an economically healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyle.

The event will kickoff with a live performance by Brick by Brick, vendors, and exhibits, along with snacks and beverages from local sources. Three workshop sessions will follow at 1:30, 2:35, and 3:40 p.m. There will be three separate workshops during each session; one each for adults, youth, and families/kids. Derek Christianson of Brix Bounty Farm will be leading a workshop on growing a vegetable garden with your family as well as an advanced vegetable growing workshop. Alan Palm, from the Alliance for Climate Education, will be leading workshops on crafting a public narrative, youth leadership, and messaging through the arts. Other workshop topics will include native landscaping, green parenting, worm composting, and much more. Admission is free for the event. Learn more.

"Walks with Audubon," the 2nd Saturday of every month, March-September. Join us to celebrate the work of John James Audubon through a series of walks, each focusing on birds within a specific habitat. These walks are in collaboration with the New Bedford Art Museum which will feature an Audubon exhibit, "Taking Flight!" June 4-September 11. Walks are from 9am-11am, but join us for coffee, snacks and discussion at 8:30am. Meet at the Allens Pond field station, 1280 Horseneck Rd., Westport, MA. Walks are $5. Children under 10 are FREE.

Mass Audubon's statewide Bird-a-thon, May 14-15, 6pm-6pm. 24 hours of birding across Massachusetts to support conservation efforts. Join the Allens Pond team!

Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary 2010 Duck Derby, Saturday, August 14, 2010. Event starts at 11am. Winners announced 1:30pm. Get your ducks for a chance to win "Dinner for Two Anywhere in the World"!
