It was Easter Sunday, 1955, when the Lafrance Family opened the doors of White's of Westport.  Now, 55 years later that event is being commemorated with a very special Employee Reunion/Hall of Fame Dinner on Monday, December 20, 2010.

If you have ever worked at Lafrance Hospitality Company (White’s of Westport, Hampton Inn, or Bittersweet Farm Restaurant & Tavern), you are invited to attend the event. There will be good fellowship and reminiscing with old friends. The Lafrance family will also recognize long-time employees for their many years of service.

According to Richard Lafrance, “This 55th anniversary year is truly a milestone. In an industry known for business failure, we feel truly blessed and thankful that our community supports us in this way. We’ve tried to mark this special anniversary in a variety of ways, but none more important than the employee reunion."

“It’s been five years since our last reunion and we’re looking forward to getting past and present employees together again for a very special celebration. It’s also an opportunity to express our deep appreciation for the many years of dedicated service by members of our extended Lafrance Hospitality family,” he said.

Tickets are now available, with proceeds supporting the Roland “AimeLafrance Scholarship Fund. For more information, call White’s of Westport at (508) 675-7185.

t2.jpg82 seasoned citizens celebrated the season with Gary Duquette and the "Candy Canes" at the Westport Senior Center Wednesday, and they had a rockin' good time!

Ham luncheon with holiday treats were served at 11:30 a.m. - all for the bargain price of $3.00 per person.

Entertainment provided by One Bad Ant's Gary Duquette. Truly a one-man band, Gary’s style leaves everyone asking for more. Locally grown guitarist Gary continues to be a welcome guest at the Senior Center's holiday parties.

Budget crunch aside, you can always count on COA's Mary Ellen Gomes to deliver a wallop of a party to Westport's senior community.

rsz_2.jpgClose to 60 members and guests of Westport Business to Business celebrated their Holiday Social Thursday, December 16th at the new, soon-to-be-opened location of Sisters of the Wool, 772 Main Road.

The business group, best known for its networking panache, anted up an impressive collection of toys for the Toys for Tots program.

Many members brought an unwrapped toy for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation. The primary goal of the Foundation is the same as that of the overall Toys for Tots Program: i.e., to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them into becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

Bob and Carol Russell of Westport Rivers Vineyard and Winery spread some cheer of their own with wine and beer tastings, adding a sparkling touch to a fabulous buffet from Marguerite's Restaurant.

Outgoing president John Long praised the organization's 140 members for their support and commitment to the community at large, and said he was proud to have served them as president.

Incoming president Michael Sullivan said he planned to continue the efforts of previous presidents and support the organization's membership growth through outreach and monthly programs.

Sisters of the Wool, a new Westport retail venture by Pat Brost, is a full service yarn shop which plans to offer products and service such as "Knit-nite", classes and/or workshops. Look for her opening soon. For more information call or click Pat at: (201) 788-0724 or email: pbrost2@comcast.net.
