Haiti fundraiser plays to a Full
House! EverythingWestport.com Sunday,

It
was an epic afternoon as the bands gave of their time, and the supporters and
guests gave of their money to support ‘A Song for Haiti’, a benefit to help Haiti’s earthquake victims. All ticket proceeds are
to be donated to the American Red Cross. Left: Bud
Larry and his band of seven really rocked! White’s
of Westport donated the facility and the concession setup to support this
very worthwhile effort. No American is unaffected by today’s chaotic economy,
but our area’s local residents and businesses still found it in their hearts
to support those less fortunate than themselves. Leading the charge for Haitian relief were
musical groups Bud Larry, Bobby Hogan, Brian Scott, De Ja Vu, Full House (Paul & Michelle), Gary Farias and Farias Brothers, Midnight Kitchen, The Goat Ropers, and Wood
and Fire. Their volunteer effort filled an afternoon with music and fun. All ticket proceeds donated to the American
Red Cross. For
more information on this event or to see how you can help please call Michelle at (508) 264-6130 Paul at
(508) 642-6791.
Westport reaches out to Haiti. A
‘Song for
Haiti’ joined many other local Haitian relief efforts in Westport;
most recently a White’s-sponsored Chuckles Stand Up Comedy fundraising event
that “produced $500 for Haiti as well as $1,500 for Junior Achievement,”
according to Charlie Fellows of the Lafrance Hospitality Company. Another
notable fundraiser was last Wednesday night’s Kundalini Class at Yoga at the
Grange where “we were in service of our sisters and brothers in
Haiti who are struggling to get back on their feet,” said class instructor
Mary Ann Turpin. All proceeds from that class will be donated to an
organization that is supporting Haiti's reclamation. At a special February 8 event, the South
Coast's local brewery, Just Beer,
decided to donate 100% of sales of its Amber Ale beer to World Vision's
efforts in post-earthquake Haiti. Bill Russell, owner and brewer, explained
that "with the SuperBowl on Sunday, we couldn't help but think this was
a great way for people to serve delicious local brew and do some good at the
same time." Over $1200 was
raised. Click here to

February 21, 2010 The Friends of the Council of Aging need
your help! As
you know, the Westport Council on Aging is publishing this year a new, three-year,
local telephone book. There
are two very important things that you must do: 1.
If you are not in the New Bedford Verizon directory
(delivered since February 1st) you will not be in our Telephone Book, unless you
contact us in writing giving us your name, address, and the telephone number
that you want in the book. Send to: FWCOA, P.O. Box N192, Westport Mass.
02790. 2.
If you get your mail at a Post Office Box and you want
that information shown in the new Telephone Book, you must call Claire at
(508) 636-3535 or e-mail cvkenney@yahoo.com.
We will include the Post Office Box numbers but only if you notify us, as
shown above. 3.
We are willing to show your cell phone number in the
Telephone Book if you are no longer
using a “land line”. But you must notify us in writing of this - send to:
FWCOA, P.O Box N192, Westport Ma. 02790. The
FWCOA publishes this Telephone Book as a service to the town and a fundraiser
for the senior center. It is distributed free to every household, and if you
have a business or service, it is the best possible place to advertise - our
rates have not been raised. If you have not received the forms and rates for
an ad, please call Lillian at (508) 675-7635 and they will be sent to you. All
Ads must be submitted promptly in order to make our deadline. - - - - - End - - -
