The weather was sparkling and they had a great turnout. “We had 22
dogs the first year,” Nancy Crosby said. Crosby, a partner at Partners and
owner of 2-year-old Andy was on-hand to MC the event. “We were rained out the
second year.” Left: Westport’s “pump-man” Bob
Butler packs a pair of Dachsies. Funds raised through entry fees and
the raffle go to the SouthCoast Humane Society, supporting the local dog
charity, she said. Partners is a very proactive
retailer in promoting community events across the wide span of interests that
Westport offers, and Dachshund Day was no different. If something is
happening in Westport, it’s usually happening at Partner There were all ages and sizes of
Dachsies. Some were smooth-coated, some long-haired, and some wire-haired.
“They all get along,” Lisa Cusick of Partners said. “They are very sociable
animals.” The standard size Dachshund was
developed to scent, chase and flush out badgers and other burrow-dwelling
animals, while the miniature was developed to hunt smaller prey, like
rabbits. Olli Heil and her dog pumpkin
(who is 16 years old) won the raffle and the oldest. There is woman in the
purple shirt in the front of the picture (middle left) with her young
daughter. They won youngest but I don't know who they are :( We raised
$204.00 which has been sent to the Humane Society. Olli Heil sent me video of
her dog crossing the ramp (which I guess is a big deal because he isn't
walking too good). I can forward that to you also.
Awards were presented for the
youngest and oldest dogs.

raffle and the oldest Dachshund!
There were parades of dogs
where each dog type was separated by hair type and paraded in groups; owners
and dogs were introduced by Lisa Cusick, with awards presented to the
youngest and oldest dog. Lisa
Cusick, manager of Partners, said about $204 was raised through entry fees
and the raffle, and “will go to the Southcoast Humane Society, “supporting
the efforts of this local dog charity.” “Every dog
owner is very proud of his or her dog. They like to show them off,” explained
Crosby when asked about the record turnout. Click here to learn about more about these wily wieners!
