Prolific Westport artisan Dora
Atwater Millikin won the David Aldrich Award
(Award of Excellence) for her oil painting "Biking Bailey's Ledge." Cornell also won the Mary Elizabeth Post Award (Award of Excellence)
for her "Winter Sports," painted in oil. You might say this was her time in the limelight, and you would be
right. Left: Meredith Wildes
Cornell opens “Greeting the Seasons.” Cornell is a 1965 Graduate of the Swain School of Design, New Bedford,
MA. She also studied with Lennart Andersen, Alden
Wicks, Thomas Sgouros, Norma Anderson and W. Linn
Bruce. She is a member of the Providence Art Club, Westport Art Group, and
Gallery on the Commons. Two other local area artists also won Awards of Excellence. Cynthia
Getchell won the Molly Luce Burroughs Award for her pastel "South Coast
Dairy," and the Betty Burroughs Woodhouse Award was given to Valerie
Albert-Weingard for "New Tanini,"
a watercolor. 180 entries from talented area painters and sculptors have turned this
juried art show into a most prestigious event indeed.

and Kathy Weber. Proceeds from this year's show will be used to benefit the many
programs at the Little Compton Community Center. Located in the beautiful seaside
community of Little Compton, Rhode Island, the non-profit Community Center
serves as a meeting place and program site for residents and visitors of all
ages.
