“We’re not playing
bluegrass,” she matter-of-factly stated during a recent phone interview with Michael Bialas in mid-May. “We’re playing music
that comes from bluegrass." The Summer Concert was opened by singer Charlie Cover,
a longtime favorite, who teamed up with young Thatcher and Joanne who have
quite an act of their own. New Bedford's Charlie
Cover works as an organizer, performer, and supporter of the local music
scene. He performs across the East Coast and in Europe. His music has been
described as, “a hint of Cat Stevens, a bit of Leonard Cohen, and just a
touch of the upbeat fun reminiscent of Chuck Berry!” Charlie Cover writes
songs, sings songs, plays guitar with songs, records his songs, sells them,
plays on the streets, in coffee houses, bars, bookstores, the kitchen, the
hall, bedroom... wherever, and loves doing it. - Charlie Cover
Acclaimed vocalist Aoife O’Donovan has been turning heads throughout the
music scene for the past 10 years. Called “Americana’s newest darling” by USA
today, Aoife is a founding member of
alternative-Bluegrass sensations “Crooked Still,” with whom she tours the
world for most of the year. She is also a member of the folk-noir trio, “Sometymes Why.” She presenting some of
her own original songs at Shattuck's Gallery to a packed and appreciative house. Is Westport ready for this caliber of
entertainment?
