Under beautifully azure skies, temperatures
in the high 60s, and with the light green hint of spring in the beachside
foliage, 150 runners and walkers turned out to take the challenge and support
the Westport Fishermen's Association in the process. Click here
to view race video clip. "Everyone who registered showed
up," said WFA race coordinator, Jennifer Gelinas.
"It was a great day!" Despite the perfect weather and lack
of any wind there were no records, not even close. But it was a good day for a run. Anderson was never really challenged,
and he coasted to an easy win. However, he was 47 seconds off his
record-setting pace of his last year's win. Brian Macilvain
(28:15) of Boston finished 18 seconds behind Anderson to take second place. Macilvain won a squeaker for second place over David Constantin0
(28:16) of Cumberland, Rhode Island by 1 second. Constantino, last year's second place finisher at 29:52, improved
his performance by cutting an impressive 1:36 from 2010, but he faced stiff competition
this year by the younger Macilvain. Eric Narcisi
of Charlestown holds the Westport Fishermen’s Association 8K record of a
blistering 25:19 set in 2009.

David Constantino - 3rd. WFA 8K is becoming a family affair. Women's winner Christine Anderson (10th
overall), last year's women’s second place finisher at 32:05, ran a
respectable 34:00. She was also the top female finisher in 2009 with a time
of 30:27. Tina Varseas
(37:17) of Mattapoisett took second female and finished 15th overall. Varseas is a substitute teach in the Wareham High School. Lindsay Croshier
(38:36) of Watertown was third female winner
and 17th overall. Heather Capello
holds the female record of 27:59 set in 2006.

Above: over 40 walkers enjoyed a fast
walk around the three mile course which included a beach front promenade
along Horseneck Beach.

male/female winners. Ribbons went to the top three male and top three female
runners in each of the four age categories. There was a post race raffle with
prizes donated by generous local sponsors.
