The Westport Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) announces their 54th Annual Book Fair featuring over 25,000 books for sale.

The Fair opens on Saturday, July 11th at 938 Main Road, Westport when the ropes drop and the book-buying crowd rushes the tents!

On-going through July 19th, open "dawn to dusk."

The Westport Friends are hoping to fill their benches, not with their usual worshippers, but with over 25,000 gently-used books for sale.  The Westport Friends' Book Fair serves as the main fundraising event of the Westport Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and will take place on their grounds at 938 Main Road in Westport, Massachusetts.  The Book Fair officially opens at 11:00 a.m. (rain or shine) but will continue "dawn to dusk" throughout the week.

Over the past fifty-four years, the Westport Friends' Book Fair has become a summer tradition on the South Coast with visitors traveling from all over Massachusetts, and even the country, to attend this record-breaking sale. Generations of families share in the delight of discovering lost literary gems at bargain-basement prices.

Gretchen Baker-Smith, Property Coordinator for the Westport Friends and member since 1989, calls the Book Fair, "A labor of love" for the local community. "I enjoy seeing how passionate people get when they find an unusual book on a subject they love...It really makes my day."

After so many decades, it is understandable that many myths and traditions surround the Westport Friends' Book Fair. It is rumored that, in the early years, one book-browser discovered a first edition of Moby Dick which sold for fifty-cents. Traditions include the honorary "Blowing of the Whistle" to signal the official opening of the book sale, and the annual night-before-book-sale "Chopping of the Tabbouleh" which is sold to the public every year (along with other luncheon items).

The Book Fair officially opens at 11:00 a.m. but the 6-for-a-dollar paperbacks can be purchased starting at 10:00 a.m. with the children’s book section opening exclusively for kids at 10:45 a.m.  Rain or shine, the Book Fair will continue through Sunday, July 19 and will be open from "dawn to dusk."  Prices range from one dollar to five dollars a book with the average cost being $1.50.  Light lunch, snacks, and beverages will be sold on the opening day of the sale.

Book donations are accepted throughout the year.

To celebrate the arrival of our favorite time of the year Westport Rivers Vineyard is happy to announce that they will be hosting a food truck at the Vineyard every Saturday for the rest of the summer. It’s a great opportunity to swing by, grab a bottle of wine and enjoy their lovely grounds while enjoying some amazing food.

Kicking it off this Saturday, June 27th is the scrumptious “Plouf Plouf Gastronomie”. Plouf utilizes quasi secret weapon three Michelin starred Maitre Cuisinier de France, Mario Maolliere. His unparalleled experience, mastery and vision gives plouf plouf the ability to perfectly craft dishes like Lapin au Cidre, Brittany Langoustine in brandy reduction sauce as comfortably as their rustic Hanger Steak with shallot-bordelaise sauce, hand-cut fried etc. This food is amazing and pairs perfectly for our wines. They will be joining us between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Next Saturday July 4th will feature VESTA Mobile Wood-Fired Pizza. VESTA Mobile Wood-Fired Pizza was a huge hit at their Open House this past November and they’re happy to have them back to celebrate the 4th of July here. Whether you choose to have them custom make you their cheese pizza featuring vine ripened tomato sauce and mozzarella and provolone cheese or you get a bit adventurous and try their signature VESTA featuring grilled chicken and bacon or their BEETZA with fresh roasted beats you are sure to LOVE the end result…perfect with a glass of wine.
