If lattes, mochas, cappuccinos, and expresso are your thing, then look no further than Westport’s newest coffee house.

Common Ground Coffee has opened at the former dry cleaning location in the Central Village Plaza, right next to Tony’s Pizza.

Owner Stephan Grein thought his new venture was needed in Westport, and invites all to stop in and give them a try.

Above: Stephan Grein and wife Daphne behind the counter of their new venture, Common Ground Coffee at 782 Main Road, Central Village Plaza, Westport.

Grein, who also operates Fourtech Computer Services in the same plaza, is emphasizing local, quality-based offerings such as milk from Arruda’s Farm, and their cheese from Shy Brothers Farm on Main Road.

Of special importance to Grein is that their coffee supplier provides them with single origin coffee, not like other distributers that get their coffee from several Brazilian locations.

Grein’s wife Daphne and a young staff are behind the counter from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every day, and Stephan is just a few doors down if needed!

Look for their grand opening and fair with guitarist Carlin Tripp, artisans Adam Grace and Vera Gasser, and a demonstration tent featuring their local coffee roaster, 1733 Roaster out of Dartmouth on Saturday, September 12th.

Art Jewelry: Strong Voices at The Shattuck.

Artists’ Reception on Saturday, September 5th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Dedee Shattuck Gallery is pleased to present Art Jewelry: Strong Voices running from Wednesday, September 2nd to Sunday, September 27th.

Their September group show features twenty-four artists, some represented by multiple pieces, whose works challenge the standard definition of jewelry.  These pieces are evidence of the diverse and ever-changing field of contemporary art in jewelry making.

The practice of creating or using art forms for or on the body has evolved alongside humans for thousands of years, as have materials, techniques, and societal acceptance of wearable art.  This exhibition highlights artists whose works are more than decorative; some are perhaps beyond wearable.

These works leave us to ponder dichotomous themes such as comfort versus beauty, while the artists suggest varied descriptions of the role played by these adornments for the body – defined as beautiful object, armor, or even narrative.

The works in this show were chosen by a panel of three esteemed jurors: Kerianne Quick, an artist and Professor of Metalsmithing; Elizabeth Williams, art historian and curator at RISD Museum; and Reneé Zettle-Sterling, an artist, Associate Professor, and President of the Society of North American Goldsmiths.

Dedee Shattuck Gallery is located at 1 Partners Lane, Westport, MA.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday; 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Sunday 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.
