rsz_3.jpgIt seemed everybody had the same idea on this misty, Friday evening as fishermen lined the Route 88 bridge and the waterways beneath to try their luck. If it floated, they were fishing from it. A spectacular sunset so typical of Westport made the evening memorable.

From the left, clockwise: (1) The setting sun highlights two men trying to catch their supper; (2) it was standing room only on the Route 88 bridge; (3) if it floated, they were fishing from it; and (4) fishing at twilight near the Westport town docks.

The collective green thumbs of the Westport River Gardeners recently smartened up the Town Hall flagpole and sign. Where will they strike next!

Well, Marianne Naedele of Westport was caught in the act Saturday morning sprucing up the WRG’s Welcome to Westport sign near the new fire station. This group is beautifying Westport one small plot at a time.

The utility companies have been quietly updating the aging, street-side service poles along Old County and Fisher Roads. Rumor on the street has it that heavier duty power lines are to be installed. Hallelujah! The beefy poles are taller, and should provide more reliability and stability to the power lines that always seem to falter under ice and winter snows.

The extended Mills family from Fall River made this Father’s Day breakfast a real generational event. The Vietnam Veterans of America, Bristol County Chapter 207’s kitchen was cranking as over 200 plates of scrambled eggs, homefries, bacon, sausage, pancakes, beans, toast, juice and coffee were dished out to hungry visitors who anted up $6 for the all you can eat buffet.  Proceeds will benefit veterans and community scholarship programs.

It was a lot of breakfast for only $6 to support the folks who protected us for generations. God bless our veterans, and God bless America.

The Town of Westport became a Right-To-Farm Community by Town meeting vote in 2003. The monies raised will go to the purchase of street signs re-stating Westport as a “Right To Farm Community”.
