are scheduled from Black Friday till Christmas that guarantee to keep
Westport shoppers and show-goers hopping around town. Starting with the Holiday Open House at the Vineyard
(see above), this past weekend featured the Holiday Artisans Gallery with artist Edward Melusky

weekend at the Amy C. Lund Studio and Gallery in Tiverton. The annual Christmas Bazaar at our Lady of Grace Church Parish Center on Sanford Road in Westport (above right) featured over 30 craft
tables, plus Lady Luck was on hand with: Winner-every-time table, elf’s
pot-of-gold, U pick-um table, and a big $$ raffle. Just think; only seven more to go! The day after Thanksgiving

Bryann Silva, 14, a freshman
at Westport High School, was canvassing hard for the WHS
Cheerleaders’ table at the recent Parents Association Westport High School’s
(PAWHS-PTA) 2nd
Annual Holiday Vendor/Craft Show. Ten school groups were invited by PAWHS-PTA to attend free of charge to support their
favorite community service group. “I thought the show went very well,” said Jeanne Cawley, PAWHS
president. “We had four more vendors than last year for a total of 24, and we
netted over $2000 which will be used to support after-prom parties for our
juniors and seniors,” she said. Among the other school groups joining the
vendors were: SAAD, the Key Club, the Math Club,
Classes of 2008, 2009, and 2010, Holly’s Memory Box, Music Boosters, and the
Student Council Store. “Everybody was happy, including the vendors,” Jeanne
said. “This year we had a pre-setup time on Friday, greatly reducing the
stress of last minute problems on Saturday morning. We really worked the
kinks out,” Jeanne added. The two giant scavenger hunt raffle baskets were
won by Austin MacKay of Westport (children), and Dorothy Coutinho
of Acushnet (adult). For more information on this PAWHS
event or others visit: www.wildcatpawhs.org. When
all through the town, there were Book Signings, Art Sales, and Concerts . . .

Click on the images to enlarge Noel, the fifth hurricane of the 2007 season,
turned into an ‘extratropical cyclone’ and took aim at the coastal sections
of the Northeast, unleashing its wind, but not its water, Saturday on
Westport. The northeast winds from the back side of this powerful system
actually prevented any flooding in Westport because it produced a tidal surge
to the southwest that, outside of creating some heavy surf against the east
side of Gooseberry Island and a choppy harbor with two foot waves, produced
the lowest high tide (4 p.m.) at the Head of Westport (photo lower left) seen in recent memory. In fact, previous
storms have turned the Head into a small lake as shown in the photo lower right dated October 28,

“Tony The
Dancing Cop™“,
world renowned performer, brought his Children’s Safety Show to the Westport
Free Public Library Thursday night to the delight of over 65 children and
adults in attendance. Once a full time Providence Police Officer, Tony Lepore danced his way from directing traffic to
international stardom. His very graceful and acrobatic traffic direction
style incorporated dance moves from George Jefferson to Elvis Presley and
John Travolta. Tony mixed into his performance the five safety rules of
Halloween trick or treating, such as examining all received candy, and being
sure a Halloween mask doesn’t interfere with street-crossing. Upper left: Tony teaches Isaac Hayes,

from the Helen E. Ellis Charitable Trust administered by the Bank of America.
